Language Training

We have just found out that we are going to be learning a new language for our mission. It is called Tagalog, the main language of the Philipines. Even though many or most people speak some English, we are told, that this will be helpful. The MTC is sending materials for us to study and we will read and study, then three times a week we will call the MTC and talk to a tutor who will guide us through. We will only spend one week at the MTC but we will have more tutoring of the language while we are there. We are excited so pray for us.

Called to Serve...

Well the long awaited day finally arrived. Our call to serve was waiting in the mail box on October 23, 2008. We called all of the family members that could come, to meet at our home at 7:00 p.m. when the unveiling would take place. Abe opened the envelope and I read the verdict.

I was nervous and a little scared but very excited. We were all guessing where the call might be to. Clint hit the nail on the head. We are going to the Phillipines Tacloban Mission. We will report to the MTC in Provo, Utah on January 26th, 2009 where we will spend about one week before leaving for the mission.

Abe feels distressed that we are not leaving by December 1st but he will have to get used to the idea. We are extatic! We began to read about the Phillipines to get an idea of what to expect. There is a web site called www.missionarymall.org that you can go to to find out all about various missions and what people have said about them.

Thanks to Denise for setting up our blog spot. We will use it while we are away as a journal and to share pictures with whoever is interested.
